Yutong developed their first electric bus in 1999 and now offers operators the most widely proven electric bus design currently in existence. This is delivered as one complete package from one manufacturer.
Chinese manufacturers lead the world in electric vehicle production and Yutong has 40,000 vehicles running in China with the same electric drive train as that offered to UK customers. Set out in the table below is the share of different Chinese manufacturers in the Chinese market in 2016.

Twelve LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery packs, total of 324kwh capacity. The battery management system is unique to Yutong and constantly monitors temperature, voltage, current and capacity in the batteries.
Each pack weighs 180kgs. Modular design of battery packs means they can easily be changed in the future if better battery technology come available mid-way through the vehicle life
Yutong battery supplier also supplies Apple. Yutong has exclusive contract with this supplier for bus batteries.
Single Yutong YTM280-CV9-H electrical PMSM drive motor. [Max power 350 kW. Max Torque 2,400 Nm]. The motor is water cooled with its own radiator.
HV power is supplied from the batteries to the ReController box (or 5 in 1 controller) This then sends power to the Motor, Compressor, Steering Pump, Heating/Cooling and the vehicle DC system depending on signals sent to it by the vehicle control unit which sits above it.
ZF RL82EC Steering axle with ZF 8098 electro-hydraulic energy saving power-assisted steering. DC powered steering pump.
ZF AV132 Drive axle – the rear axle including all suspension and braking is the same as a conventional diesel bus for ease of maintenance by existing staff. The BYD has rear hub motors so everything about the rear axle is completely different to a conventional bus.
Full ECAS air suspension with twin front air bags and four rear air bags, SACHS shock absorbers and kneeling function.
Air brake system with front and rear disk brakes. Regenerative braking system extends range by up to 40% depending on the route. Air supply from electric drive compressor.
Heating & Cooling:
Roof mounted cooling and heating A/C (32,000KCA) which is the most electric efficient way of heating the bus. Back up radiators are usually set to come on when temperature falls below zero. Option of separate diesel powered heater.
