A Day in the Life of a Pelican Field Service Engineer

We’re expanding our team, and we want to give you an insight into what life at Pelican is really like. To do that, we spoke with Chris Easton, a Field Service Engineer based in central Scotland, who has been part of the team for over two years.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Chris:

“A typical day varies… carrying out runouts for new customers, servicing a range of diesel and electric buses and coaches, and carrying out diagnostics from EBS to high-voltage errors. I also carry out a range of repairs and campaigns.”

 

Which vehicle do you enjoy working on the most — and why?

Chris:

“For diesel, it would be the GT12. It’s a great all-round coach loaded with technology, and everything on it is well thought out in terms of maintenance, unlike most buses and coaches.”

“For electric, it would be the GTE14. It’s packed with technology that most people in my trade haven’t seen yet.”

 

What’s something special about the Pelican team? What makes you proud to be part of it?

Chris:
“The boys out in the field all have a great relationship. We share knowledge and are willing to help each other no matter what time of day or night it is.”

“I’m proud to be part of the team that’s building the great reputation the after-sales team has, especially as Yutong becomes one of the biggest bus and coach manufacturers in the UK.”

 

What’s your proudest achievement at Pelican?

Chris:
“Last year, I was part of a team that went over to China for a training course and a tour around the factory. One of the most incredible things I’ve seen in my career — and life — was the sheer size of the factory.”

 

How has Pelican helped you grow as an engineer?

Chris:
“The training in China really helped, and the day-to-day challenges help too. I’ve worked on systems I’d never seen before, from high-voltage components to radar technology.”

“We also have Yutong engineers here in the UK who share knowledge with us, and their experience from working all over the world is great to learn from.”
