Yesterday marked the conclusion of the PSV Skills Testing Week at the IRTE Skills Challenge, and Pelican Engineering Group was proud to support the event as headline sponsor.
Throughout the three-day competition, some of the industry’s most talented engineers and apprentices put their knowledge and practical skills to the test, competing across a range of technical challenges designed to showcase the very best of bus and coach engineering.
We were also pleased to have both our Yutong GT12 coach and Yutong E12 electric bus on site, with competitors carrying out elements of the challenge on the vehicles as they demonstrated their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities.
The teams competing over the course of the event included Metroline London, Metroline Manchester, Reading Buses, trentbarton, Arriva, First Bus, Ensignbus, National Express, Go-Ahead London and Lothian Buses.
Representing our Pelican EV Automotive Training team, Matt Cumming FIMI MIRTE played an active role in assessing competitors throughout the week, helping to evaluate the high standards of skill and professionalism on display. The wider Pelican EV Automotive Training team , including John Ghallager, also worked hard behind the scenes throughout the event to help keep everything running smoothly.
We were also delighted to welcome members of the trade press during the event’s media day. Richard Crump, Managing Director, shared insights into the evolving skills requirements facing the transport industry, from traditional vehicle technologies through to high-voltage and zero-emission systems.
This is one of the reasons we brought both a Yutong electric bus and a Yutong diesel coach to the event. Today’s engineers need experience across a range of technologies, reflecting the mixed fleets that many operators continue to run as the industry transitions towards a zero-emission future.
The IRTE Skills Challenge continues to play a vital role in recognising and developing engineering talent across the sector, helping to inspire the next generation of technicians while celebrating the expertise already within the industry.
Congratulations to everyone who took part and demonstrated their skills throughout the week. We would also like to thank the Society of Operations Engineers and the IRTE team for organising an excellent event.
We look forward to the next stage of the IRTE Skills Challenge in August, where the focus will be on the HGV sector
