EV Automotive Training Is Fully Charged With IMI Centre Approval

11/08/2023

Pelican are thrilled to announce that our new automotive training division – EV Automotive Training has been awarded The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Centre Approval. It will be managed by experienced Training Manager Dave Walker.

Training is a natural progression to complement the outstanding aftersales service that Pelican already provides to our customers. We have invested heavily in our new training arm to provide all the equipment and support needed to set up an industry-leading workshop. Gaining IMI Approval was an integral part of setting up EV Automotive Training; to assure our customers that our training has the highest technical and business standards and will provide their staff with all the knowledge they need.

Training is a natural progression to complement the outstanding aftersales service that Pelican already provides to our customers. We have invested heavily in our new training arm to provide all the equipment and support needed to set up an industry-leading workshop. “Pelican has always put customer service and support at the heart of our business, and EV Automotive Training allows us to take this to another level. Adding training to our offering is something that we have wanted to do for some time – we just needed to find the right person. Dave Walker is the person we had been searching for. He is well-known and respected in the Automotive Industry and brings a wealth of experience in training, setting up, and running workshops.”

Katrina Hogan, Aftersales Manager at Pelican Engineering Group

“Finally, after several months of preparation, purchasing equipment, authoring new materials plus loads of hard work and unbelievable support from Pelican and The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), EV Automotive Training has completed its first training course. It feels amazing to be back in the classroom and workshop with people who love their jobs and want to learn and develop. With over 50 people already booked on our workshops, I can’t wait to welcome the next cohort of candidates and help them achieve their dreams.”

Dave Walker, Training Manager at EV Automotive Training

Dave’s knowledge and determination, combined with the hard work of Pelican’s amazing aftersales team, have got EV Automotive off to a flying start. In EV Automotive Training’s first week, they trained 12 engineers who have gained 12 good passes: seven on Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Training, and five on Automotive Refrigerant Handling (F-Gas).

“The automotive industry is undergoing exciting changes as we transition from ICE to low carbon emission vehicles. Auto Trader predicts that EVS will make up a quarter of the total UK car parc by 2030, however, our own data confirms that the number of technicians qualified to work safely on these vehicles will fall short of what is needed. Significant investment in training is vital which is why we are delighted to welcome EV Auto Training on board as an IMI Centre, recognising the hugely important role it will play in upskilling the sector. It is also important to applaud the investment made by The Pelican Engineering Group in setting up EV Auto Training. This demonstrates their forward-thinking approach, putting people development at the heart of its business for its own employees, as well as the wider automotive technicians.”

Michelle, Barratt Business Development Manager at the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI)
