Investing in Excellence – Celebrating Women in the Bus and Coach Industry This International Women’s Day

At Pelican, we proudly support International Women’s Day and its mission of investing in women and promoting gender equality.

Pelican is keen on fostering greater female participation in the transport industry where currently only 20% are women. We are pleased to have recently welcomed two female managers, each bringing their unique talents to our team, reflecting our dedication to creating opportunities for women in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Pelican employs many women, working at all levels of our business and across all areas of our organisation. We asked some of our female employees to share their thoughts about working within the bus and coach industry to inspire more women to join this exciting sector. This is what they had to say:

“I have worked within the transport/HGV industry for over 20 years. I felt working within the bus & coach industry would give me a different level of knowledge, and it would give me the ability to reach different goals within my career.

It is really satisfying to be involved from the beginning to end of a project; overcoming challenges and then seeing the end product in service is extremely rewarding.

Every day is different: I am involved in a wide range of roles, which is challenging, and I continually learn new things.

We have tremendous relationships with both Customers and Suppliers.

I love interacting with a wide range of inspiring and supportive people.”

We also asked them about why they like working for Pelican:

“Pelican is a family business and I think this is reflected in the day to day environment of the company. Everyone shares similar values and there is a great moral between everyone at Pelican across all our different companies.

Pelican is a family run business where they understand the importance of a good work/life balance for working parents.

I feel appreciated, recognised and supported which should not be underestimated: it motivates me to do the best for our team.”

And finally, some words of wisdom from our inspiring employees:

“It might not seem like the most glamorous job, however it’s a huge industry that contributes a lot to the UK economy and I have found it really interesting. There is so much more to it than I originally thought.

Don’t be held back by the thought that it’s a male dominated industry. Women are becoming more and more prominent. You can have your own stance and viewpoint, so make sure your voice is heard.”
